THE POLITICS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EVIDENCE FOR AGROECOLOGY

17 May 2022 | 14:00-15:30 CET   RSVP via Zoom Registration

Co-organizers: Agroecology Coalition, Agroecology Europe, Agroecology Fund, Cultivate!,
Coventry Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience, Global Alliance for the Future of
Food, IPES-Food, Louvain Cooperation, Universidad Pablo de Olavide, with technical
assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

In December 2021, the Global Alliance for the Future of Food released a global compendium
titled The Politics of Knowledge: Understanding the Evidence for Agroecology, Regenerative
Approaches and Indigenous Food Systems, and an associated interactive website. As part of
a follow-up strategy, contributing authors and regional partners are organizing six regional
dialogues that aim to situate key messages from the compendium in regional processes and
priorities. The overall objective of the events is to increase understanding, interest and
support for agroecology from policymakers and funders.

The Europe Dialogue on Agroecology will focus on the opportunities to align agroecology
with European strategies such as Farm to Fork and the Green Deal, as well as national
strategies and development cooperation programmes. Through this dialogue researchers,
farmers and policymakers will share how they are implementing agroecology, why it is
important to align agroecology with European policy strategies and address the urgency of
transitioning towards agroecology given the food, energy and trade crisis sparked by the
war in Ukraine. Short interventions by invited speakers will be followed by a longer dialogue
that will allow for dynamic participation from the audience in order to address key questions.

Speakers include:
Emile Frison, Interim Coordinator Agroecology Coalition and Member of IPES-Food
Lili Balogh, President Agroecology Europe
Alfred Grand, Grand Farm, Austria
Nina Moeller, Associate Professor, Coventry University Centre for Agroecology, Water, and
Resilience
Carla Montesi, DDG INTPA, EU Comission (TBC)
Moderated by: Janneke Bruil, Cultivate!
